About Els

"Innovation is the process of turning ideas into manufacturable and marketable form."
— Watts Humprey

As an innovation consultant Els likes to translate ideas to economically viable and realistic options. Her creativity and the ability to think out of the box are essential features. She finds solutions at the interface of different disciplines such as economics, ecology and politics.

Els’ background lies in natural sciences and sustainability.  She holds a BSc degree in Biology and followed up with a MSc degree in Environment & Resource Management, with honours. During her studies she has worked on complex issues concerning sustainability and innovation. Examples of projects that Els has worked on are the development of a business case for sustainable energy supply in off-grid rural areas, and the composition of life-cycle analyses for different products.

Part of her final research project took place on the US Virgin Islands. The topic of her research was the economic value of the coral reef ecosystem. The results have been used for exploring various options for ecosystem management, where the marketing of ecosystem services came up as a promising opportunity.

Beside her passion for innovation, Els likes to spend time on scuba-diving, motorcycle-rides, dancing and cooking.
